Attending school is one of the primary responsibilities of a young person.  While a resident is residing at Keystone, our educational program will continue to meet a resident's school needs.  As part of the overall program, residents are expected to attend school.  The school's principal and teachers will have all of the resident's school records transferred here so that the resident can continue to work on their academic career without disruption.

Residents will follow a year-round school schedule of six (6) classes, Monday through Friday, including PE, lunch, and any other electives a resident may need.  If a resident is a middle school student, they will attend class with other middle school students.  If they are a high school student, they will attend classes with high school students and continue working toward earning credits for a high school diploma.  Interim reports and report cars will be issued regularly.  these documents are sent to the legal guardian, given to the therapist, and become part of the permanent school record.

During a resident's stay here, we will be in constant contact the original school district to insure that the residents get everything a resident needs to have to complete a successful school experience.  Upon discharge, all school records are given to the legal guardian to be given to the school system the resident will be attending.

Keystone's school is designed to help residents succeed academically even while they are working on therapeutic issues.  All rules and expectations of the program according to a resident's treatment goals, will also be incorporated in the classroom.  The residents are expected to behave in the same manner during school as they are expected to behave everywhere else in the program.  The teacher is an important part of the multidisciplinary team and is here to help the resident achieve, primarily academically, but overall as well.  At Keystone we place a high value on education; therefore, the expectation is that the resident will attend school as scheduled.
