It is the goal of Keystone Academy to provide an alternative education program for students with special needs from the local communities in the disability areas of ED, LD, MR, and OHI.  Keystone will strive to provide a positive and successful school experience for its students by assisting them in developing emotional coping skills and academic learning strategies.   Our hope is to return all students back to the local community school whenever possible.

Philosophy

The philosophy of Keystone Academy is "Providing HOPE for the 21st Century student:  Honesty, Optimism, Promise, and Excellence."  Due to the significant amount of social/environmental difficulties children face today, many need a stable, supportive learning environment in which to learn.  Keystone Academy strives to provide a high standard of academic excellence in a supportive, caring atmosphere.

Objective

It is the goal of the day school program at Keystone Academy to provide an alternative education program for students with learning disabilities and mild mental retardation who may also have difficulty behaviorally in the public school setting.  Many students with significant learning deficits experience a sense of failure, low self-esteem, and embarrassment when not able to compete with age appropriate peers.  Students have been known to engage in acting out behaviors rather than allow their peers to see their academic weaknesses.  Keystone will provide a positive and successful school experience for its students with the goal of assisting them to develop emotional coping skills and necessary strategies towards learning to counteract deficits.   Students will transition back to their public school with a strong academic basis and emotional confidence.

Keystone Academy matches the individual student's educational needs with the appropriate instructional and environmental conditions.  The teachers insure that programming and curriculum assists the students in achieving academically and behaviorally.  Teachers are also committed to an efficient and effective behavior management program that will allow for maximum learning time.
