In addition to the level system, there are many different program activities
that will help achieve a resident's and treatment program goals. Some of
these activities are held daily, others happen once or twice a week. It's
important that residents give all areas of the program their full effort and
work hard to get everything they can from them.

- SCA - The Student Council Association
(SCA) is comprised of 1-2 residents from each twelve bed unit. In all, Keystone has 9 units (female and male) so there can be 9-18 residents on the SCA at full capacity. The SCA's responsibilities include leadership tasks, communication, and advocating for the other residents they represent from their respective units. A SCA meeting is held weekly, during which the Recreation Director communicates scheduled events and polls the SCA members on resident issues. These issues are documented and communicated to the appropriate parties to assist in resolution.
- Art Therapy - is a form of treatment in which the
art making process is facilitated with a client by an accredited professional for the purpose of bringing about psychological growth and self-awareness. At Keystone, residents are provided with weekly art therapy groups where symbolic and cooperative projects are given to promote the building of self-esteem, impulse control, processing of life events and finding one’s own sense of personal meaning. Residents are invited to discuss their work at the close to gain recognition and insight into the themes presented. Individual art therapy is also provided on a referral basis through the resident’s primary therapist, based on the findings of their treatment plan. Art therapy brings an essential element to the whole of each resident’s treatment at Keystone, both for its healing and reparative qualities

- Expressive Therapy - is a therapeutic form of treatment that is offered to residents at Keystone in the form of groups, small groups and individual formats. Expressive therapy covers art, music, dance/movement, dramatic and performing arts as well as substance abuse therapies which offer a less verbal and direct way of expressing one's inner experience. These avenues provide positive, creative and ego-building alternatives to negative patterns and help to form healthier ways of living. Our board-certified expressive therapists help each resident to find their own sense of personal meaning and cooperation with others through weekly structured groups in each discipline. Residents are encouraged to enhance their coping skills through self-directed creative projects in addition to the provided services as they move through their treatment. In general, the expressive therapies form an essential part of the total treatment for each resident at Keystone with varied and individualized forms of intervention.
