Goal Group

The Goal Group is designed to introduce residents to the concept of setting goals, including short, medium, and long-term goals.  It gives the residents the opportunity to start their day with...

Wrap-Up Group

This group, held at the end of the resident's day, focuses on what the resident completed that day in order to achieve the day's goals.

Off-campus Outings

Off-campus outings are part of the treatment program.  To be eligible for an off-campus outing, residents must at least be at the Silver stage and not have had any major incidents in the last seven (7) days.  Silver and up outings are during the week.  Special outings for Gold and above are planned for the weekends.  Residents will work with the staff in planning recreational, educational, and leisure outings.

Expressive Therapy

Music and art are used to assist the resident to learn and to master new skills.  Through the use of  art and music residents can express what they're feeling, even if they struggle to say it out loud.

Recreational Activities

The purpose of the recreation program is to assist the resident to improve their social, emotional, mental, and physical functional abilities through recreation.  Recreational activities provide for the opportunity for fun, enjoyment, and self-expression in a structured program.  This program is designed to inter-relate with other program areas such that behaviors and/;or skills can be practiced in a controlled setting.  Residents will be involved in some aspect of recreational programming on a  daily basis.  Specific goals of the recreation program include:

  • Enhancing a resident's environment through positive group problem-solving experiences.
  • Assisting a resident in developing and using their own creativity and imagination in pursing hobbies and talents.
  • Teaching residents constructive and appropriate ways to have fun, interact, and handle stress.
  • Teaching residents to change risk-taking and unhealthy activities into socially acceptable risk-taking recreational activities.
  • Helping residents to develop a sense of trust in others
  • Helping resident to understand the concepts of recreation and leisure
  • Providing residents with opportunities for creative expression
  • Assisting resident in developing a healthy lifestyle
  • Promoting a positive integration back into the community.

Reflection Logs

Reflections logs offer residents the opportunity to write down their thoughts and feelings throughout their treatment program.  Time is set aside very evening for reflection logs, although residents may write in their reflection logs at any time (as long as it doesn't interfere with the program).  Resident's reflection logs are a private and personal journal.  Staff members will not read a reflection log unless the resident specifically gives them permission.   Residents may wish to share their reflection log with their therapist during their individual sessions.

Therapeutic Passes

Therapeutic passes are designed to assist the resident with the opportunity to practice self-management skills in the community and to begin the re-unification process with family (as appropriate).  The therapist, social worker, or legal guardian will coordinate and arrange therapeutic passes.  At the appropriate time, the resident will work with their therapist to establish treatment goals for a therapeutic pass.  Passes will be reviewed and approved by the Program Director.  Passes begin at 4 hours and can gradually increase as the resident displays appropriate behavior.
