Program Description
The program places emphasis on the
cognitive-behavioral model which means the focus is on changing the way a
person thinks which will help change the way they behave. We
have a level system that is made up of six
stages:
Orientation; Bronze, Silver, Gold, Sapphire, and Diamond. In order to
assist in a resident's progress, we provide a variety of services to help
explore new ways of thinking and behaving. In addition to providing
training in areas such as anger management, life skills, independent living
and social skills, we also provide the following:
The Boys Program is comprised of 3 twelve bed units totalling 36 boys at full capacity. Two of the twelve bed units (Pride and Dignity) are populated by 14-17 year old residents: Both units were built and completed in May of 2007 (See pictures of new units on this web page). A twelve bed unit (Endeavor) is maintained to treat 11-14 year old residents and low functioning residents: this unit utilizes a new behavioral component call "Inspire" that takes into account the immediacy needs of children at this stage of
development. Weekly socials with the females, a level system, a point store (for extra goodies), and rewards for the cleanest unit and lowest incidents are just some of the motivators for all the boys. Also, the program is comprised of two Licensed Professional Counselors and two license eligible counselors that serve as the
individual therapists, however, all the other components of Keystone's treatment program at large are also provided to the boys.
- Girls' Program
The Girls Program is comprised of 2
twenty-four bed units totalling 48 girls at full capacity.
Determination, Excel, Hope, and Opportunity are populated by 11-17 year
old female residents, and we use a cognitive-behavioral treatment
approach with specialized programs if appropriate. Specialized programs
could be trauma-focused, dialectical behavioral therapy, or behavior
based approaches. The overall philosophy is a therapeutic environment
where we assist the residents to "change their though processes, so
that they can change their behavior". In addition, the residents
are provided with recreation, art, music, expressive, and substance
abuse education groups, and are provided with the opportunity for
individual sessions if needed. The program is comprised of two Licensed
Clinical Social Workers who supervise six licensed-eligible therapists.
